Transition Hot Topics-Vestavia,Al



Transition Hot Topics brought together parents, teachers, agencies, and other stakeholders from Jefferson and Shelby County to talk about such topics as Alabama Transition Services, College and Career Readiness, and Community Supports for Success. The Opening Session was given by Gary Edwards, United Ability, to discuss the shift in service provision as it relates to transition. Many thanks to Tammy Lee,Chris Moore, and the Jeff.Co Ed. University of Montevallo - Montevallo,Al




Montevallo High students get to experience the lunchtime rush while working at the University of Montevallo's Anna Irvin Dining Hall. It was an extremely busy day with an extra 200 visiting Georgia track participants on campus. The MHS students' completed their last day of non-paid work instruction by training Calera High students on the tasks they have worked on over the past 6 weeks.The students collectively helped set up the many stations, washed dishes, prepared coffee and tea, stocked napkin dispensers, rearranged tables/chairs after a breakfast in the ballroom, and cleaned tables.

Alabama Furniture Market- Calera,AL



Our Calera High School students assembled several pieces of furniture today in the warehouse of the Alabama Furniture MarketAlabama Furniture Market is a a family-owned and operated business that strives daily to provide a unique shopping experience for its customers. The"open-air market" is comprised of a 35,000 square foot showroom and an equally large on-site warehouse.

Jeff State Community College-Bistro Pro Vare- Hoover,AL


Members of the Helena High School's Young Adults in Transition toured the Culinary Dept. of Jefferson State Community College and learned about Fast Track Certificate programs before enjoying a great meal at the Bistro. Mrs. Crumpton, their YAiT sponsor, has done a fantastic job developing the club at HHS. The students were the top fund raisers among all of the Shelby County YAiT chapters.

Our Calera High students assisted Chef Todd at  Spoon & Ladle by preparing hundreds of containers for the wonderful soups that will go out to surrounding Birmingham, Alabama restaurants and grocery stores such as: iCantinaBeef O’Brady’sBob Sykes BarbequePiggly WigglyAndy’s Farm MarketMurphree’s Market & Garden Center; And Western Supermarket
Today's flavors included Shrimp and Crab Gumbo, Asparagus and Mushroom, and Lemon Chicken with Orzo.
