CTech Grant Meeting-Columbiana,AL

We are so excited to announce that we have been awarded a grant for The Granola Project from the Al Council on Developmental Disabilities.*  Students will have a unique opportunity to develop a school-based business model that will provide a direct link between classroom learning and the world of work. This school-based business will provide the learning needed to help students overcome some of the barriers to becoming successfully employed.

The Granola Project will go well beyond the school and production site, as it will promote the students abilities within their communities. It will operate like a regular small business, letting students apply the academic and career/technical content they have learned in school. The students’ product will be sold to major grocery chains and local smoothie and coffee shops.

Jr.'s/Sr.'s from all seven schools arrived at CTech's Culinary Program to learn of this wonderful opportunity. They were all asked to vote for their favorite name/logo for the granola.

To help ensure the success of the program, collaboration has been built into the model with advisory consultants, career tech representatives, and local business/industry. Dawn Curtis, graphic designer, presented the students with several brand names and logos to choose from for the granola packaging.  Ashton Dugger, of Blythe Consulting, will also be on hand to talk about our mission/educational planning and social media and business strategies. We are very excited to be partnering with Kendall Williams and Shelby Co. Schools Education Foundation.
After the meeting, the students were introduced to TimeClock software that will be used to clock in and out during their participation.
