Oak Mountain High students assisted the office managers at Special Services Center today. They typed, printed, laminated, sorted, filed, and helped organize materials.

We would like to thank Tony King of Auction Auto Sales for working with our Chelsea High Student. Tony not only showed him how to detail an auto to ready for sale, but he also showed him how to replace spark plugs and coils in a Honda CR-V.

Costco Job Shadowing Tour- Hoover,AL

We want to thank Mr. Bobby Haynes, Costco Membership Director, for inviting our Calera High School students into the warehouse for a very informative job shadow. The students toured all of the departments and learned helpful information on job availability and benefits.

Highland Gourmet Scones- Pelham, AL

Butter, eggs, and cream are some of the ingredients used to make the wonderful scones at Highland Gourmet Scones. Our Oak Mountain High student helps owners, Lee and Katie Caldwell, weekly label and stamp bags.

Spoon & Ladle- Pelham, AL

Soup de jour at Spoon & Ladle: Shrimp & Crab Gumbo, Chicken & Andouille Gumbo, French Onion, and Brunswick Stew. Our Chelsea High School students have assisted weekly preparing the containers with front and back labels.

Sunbelt- Alabaster, AL

Sunbelt Paper & Packaging, a provider of packaging, shipping, and
maintenance supply, is located at 109 Airpark Industrial Drive
Alabaster, AL 35007. Today our Shelby County High School students
adhered felt to plastic that will be used for non-skid/marking "footies".

Highland Gourmet Scones- Pelham,AL

With the hot weather outside, it's hard to imagine autumn and cooler temps, but at Highland Scones today our Oak Mountain High School student helped prepare for the first day of Fall. She helped measure, weigh, and bag cranberries that will go into the wonderful Orange Cranberry scones. She was also very busy labeling the Pumpkin Spice scone bags. You can get them hot out of the oven on the first official day of Fall- this Saturday, September 21st.

Spoon & Ladle- Pelham,AL

These Chelsea High School students worked hard labeling hundreds of soup containers today at Spoon & Ladle that will be packaged and sent to Birmingham area supermarkets and restaurants.

Jefferson State Culinary Certificate- Hoover, AL

Chef Joseph Mitchell, Director of the Culinary & Hospitality Institute at Jefferson State Community College and Brian Geiger, Executive Director of The Horizons School hosted an interest meeting with area school systems, agencies, and businesses to discuss an exciting career prep opportunity at JSCC for students with disAbilities.

The Modified Fundamentals Cook Certificate will be an industry-led training, assessment and certification system focused on core skills and knowledge for employment across settings (bakery, delicatessen, restaurant and cafeteria) Jeff State's CHI will partner with The Horizons School and other education and nonprofit agencies serving adults with learning and other disAbilities.

Guests represented Al. Dept. of Mental Health,UAB Sparks Clinic, The Arc of Shelby County, Al. Dept. of Rehab Services,United Ability, Disability Rights and Resources, Homewood, Vestavia, Mountain Brook, and Shelby County Schools as well as Renaissance Resort & Spa at Ross Bridge and Tazikis Mediterranean Cafe.

Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum- Calera, AL

Chelsea High School students helped set up for the annual Pumpkin Patch Express at the Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum.

Afterwards they got a chance to tour the area and look at the restored train cars. HODRR is the official railroad museum of the state of Alabama!  They are located just south of Birmingham in Calera, Alabama. The museum features operating standard gauge and narrow gauge trains, two restored depots, an indoor collection of railroad artifacts and memorabilia, and an outdoor collection of railroad cars, locomotives, and cabooses.

We want to thank Highland Gourmet Scones  for working with our Oak Mountain High School students. Highland Gourmet is a family owned and operated scone bakery located just outside of Birmingham, Alabama. That’s right, Birmingham, Alabama, not England. 

Today, we helped label all the bags that will contain the fresh, delicious Original Golden Raisin,Lemon Blueberry,(Most Popular) Orange Cranberry, Hazelnut Crème Chocolate Chip, Café Mocha, Cherry Amaretto and Toasted Coconut scones.
