Young Adults in Transition Meeting -Helena Community Center
YAiT (Young Adults in Transition) groups from 6 Shelby Co. Schools and Project Search recently attended the first County-Wide meeting of the 2019-2020 school year.
The students were then able to participate in several breakout sessions. One session featured a business panel that offered words of wisdom for students as they consider post-secondary pathways.
The panel included: Adelaide Matte, a graphic design artist, who uses her own marketing company(AMD Designs) to design logos, websites, store design, and menus/ brands in places like Mark's BBcue Joint and Urban Cookhouse;
Rob Wood, manager Chick fil A 150 HWY, who told students he had worked with the company since high school; Chris Crawford, Hewlett-Packard Software -sales, fascinated the students with his tales of former US Government spy work.
His advice to the students was to be passionate about what they do; David Byrd who talked about making good decisions and leadership training with businesses; and Matt Graffeo, from O' Neil Steel, who is a buyer/ seller to international companies.
Young Adults in Transition helps young adults transition from school to the real world. It brings together people who have something in common to learn about themselves, their rights, and how to be self-advocates.
Our YAiT students have actively participated and presented at conferences and transition meetings over the years, and we now have clubs at every Shelby Co. High School.
YAiT is made possible by a grant from the DD Council*.
